Letter From the Administrator

March 19, 2020

Dear Family and Friends of Orange Rehabilitation and Health Care Center,

We have all heard of the new cases of COVID-19 in 2 nursing facilities in our State: one in Stafford Springs and one in Ridgefield. These can be frightening times for all of us, however we remain hyper-vigilant in our efforts to keep our residents safe.

I am writing you today to remind you of the measures we have been putting into place since March 9th, 2020. If at any time you have questions please feel free to call the facility and speak with Denise or myself.

As many of you know, we have set up the ability for Skype sessions for face-to-face video calls with family members, and those are going very well. To schedule a call with your loved one at the facility, please email our Skype coordinators Shaileen and Melissa at OrangeHCSkype@gmail.com or call them at the main facility number Monday-Friday during business hours.

Although there is a State mandate for no communal activities or dining, we have all been enjoying various activities such as Hallway Bingo (Bingo played over the loudspeaker in the residents' rooms and doorways,) 1:1 "Hot Cocoa and Conversation" with our Director of Therapeutic Recreation Melissa, and other activities that engage our residents while keeping them safe: Facility Singing, Hallway Foot Hockey, and more. We are also avoiding television news programming. Please follow us on Facebook or Instagram to see posts of some of our activities.

Below are just some of the many measures we began putting into place on March 9th:

1. Screening of ALL employees, every shift, as they enter the facility, for signs and symptoms of illness, and travel history.
2. No visitors allowed.
3. No communal dining.
4. No group activities.
5. Residents are being screened daily for fever and symptoms.
6. No outside food, laundry, or other items allowed to come in to the facility for residents.
7. All non-essential medical appointments outside of the facility have been postponed.
8. Our Infection Control Procedures, including nursing practices, handwashing, the use of alcohol-based sanitizers, and all cleaning procedures have been enhanced.
9. Our Social Worker has been meeting 1:1 with residents, giving them opportunity to vent and talk.
10. Daily contact with State Epidemiology, DPH, CDC, Yale, and other infectious disease experts.
11. Social distancing for any therapies
12. Our staff is encouraged to practice social distancing during their off-duty hours.
13. ALL OF US are keeping up a POSITIVE and REASSURING environment.

Be Smart, Be Safe, Be Well.

Most Sincerely,
Andree Acampora MS, LHCA
