Speech Therapy

Speech and Language Pathologists assist residents in achieving improved quality of life through assessment and treatment of language, swallowing, and/or cognitive disorders. It assists residents in achieving improved quality of life through assessment of language, swallowing, and/or cognitive disorders. Our Speech and Language Pathologists develop very specialized programs sometimes involving Modified Barium swallow testing or fiber optic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing, or on-site FEES testing.

Our Speech and Language Pathologists collaborate with physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, nursing, and family members regarding ways to improve a resident’s cognition, communication, and swallowing function. As each patient and resident’s goals and needs are unique, our Speech and Language Therapists customize the focus and plan for each individual.

Through the course of treatment, they may teach individuals how to improve any difficulties swallowing, helping those with impaired swallowing regain the ability to enjoy their preferred foods.  

For patients who are recovering from a stroke, as well as residents with dementia, or other challenges with speaking, memory, or cognition, our Speech and Language Pathologist evaluates current functioning and develops a therapy plan to assist them in being able to improve or maintain communication.
